This line of work seeks to take advantage of a new type of clinical sampling of growing importance: the deposition of biological fluids on clinical filter paper (DMSs).

Our group is a pioneer in developing methods for direct analysis of these samples for the control of metals and obtaining isotopic information, which can help in the diagnosis and/or the monitoring of the treatment of different ailments. This type of sample shows significant advantages in terms of collection, transport, and ease of storage, being ideal for newborn screening programs. Recently, these devices have also evolved to allow patients to prepare them at home in a simple way, giving rise to DMSs of perfectly known volume, thus broadening their field of application.
