ABOUT ME
Laura M. Castro obtained her BSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Havana (Cuba) in 2017. She completed her MSc in Chemical Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2020 and, in 2023, earned an MSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary (Canada). Her academic background combines Chemistry and Biochemistry. Her early research focused on the synthesis of polymeric matrices for slow-release applications, and she later specialized in the application of Computational Chemistry and Bioinformatics for drug design. She has more than two years of professional experience as a laboratory technician in the pharmaceutical and oil and gas industries. She has experience performing a wide range of chemical techniques, including HPLC, UV spectrophotometry, ion chromatography (IC), and ICP-OES. She is currently an Iberus Interdoc Fellow within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme. Her research focuses on the analysis of trace metals in biological cells and the quantification of microplastics. She is expected to complete her doctoral studies in 2030.
